Independent construction expertise,
prepared for the courtroom.

BC Construction Expert Witness provides independent delay, cost, and defect analysis for construction disputes — with opinions grounded in the project record, clearly explained, and prepared to withstand scrutiny.

Start with a conflicts checkWhat we do

Conflicts check first. We are retained by counsel. No discussion of the merits, scope, or engagement terms takes place until a conflicts check has been completed.

The question at the centre of most disputes

What happened, what did it cost, and what does the record show?

Construction claims often turn on the same three questions: why the work took longer than planned, what the work was reasonably worth, and whether the work met the contract documents.

Our work is built to answer those questions from evidence — drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, change records, payment records, photographs, and site records — not from advocacy for one side.

How the practice works

  • Independent by design. Opinions are formed on the evidence reviewed, even when they do not favour the retaining party.
  • Retained by counsel. Instructions come through counsel, with the questions to be addressed set out in writing.
  • Traceable. Every opinion identifies the documents considered, the method used, and its assumptions and limits.
  • Plain language. Technical findings are explained so counsel, and if needed the court or tribunal, can follow them.

Our approach

Evidence-based. Independent. Traceable.

1

Define the questions

Confirm, in writing, the questions the opinion must answer and the documents that will be provided.

2

Establish the scope

Build the contract scope from drawings, specifications, contracts, and change records before valuing or judging anything.

3

Measure and test

Measure quantities independently where required, test schedules against contemporaneous records, and compare assessments against budgets, invoices, and payments.

4

Conclude with limits stated

Set out conclusions, the evidence relied on, the method applied, and the assumptions and limitations that qualify them.

Who we assist

Built for counsel, useful to the decision-maker

Where a matter also needs engineering, architectural, accounting, or other specialist input, our analysis can form part of a multidisciplinary team — with each discipline's role kept distinct.

Are you retained by a party or by counsel?

By counsel, on behalf of a client. That structure protects privilege considerations and keeps the instruction, questions, and document flow clear from the start.

Will you only give an opinion that helps the retaining party?

No. An expert's duty is to the court or tribunal. If the evidence does not support a position, the report says so, with reasons.

What should counsel send first?

Only what is needed for a conflicts check: the parties, opposing counsel, the general nature of the matter, and key dates. Do not send privileged material or the full file before conflicts are cleared.

Do you work outside the Lower Mainland?

The practice is based in the Lower Mainland, BC, and accepts matters across British Columbia where the record can be reviewed effectively.

Start with a conflicts check

If you are counsel with a construction matter that may need independent delay, cost, or defect analysis, begin with the short conflicts-check form. It asks for parties and opposing counsel — and nothing about the merits — so clearance can be assessed promptly.
